Fiestas Colombinas (San Sebastián) – this is a weeklong celebration held each September, commemorating when Columbus sailed out of the port on his first voyage to the New World. During that month, the local calendar is full of musical and cultural events and street parties. To no surprise, many of these celebrations take place at sites associated with Columbus – mainly in San Sebastián. There is even a regatta race (from Huelva, Spain, to Gomera) held in early September that traces the sea route that Columbus took in 1492 from the Spanish mainland to the Canary Islands (before proceeding to the Americas).
