Museo Arqueológico de La Gomera

Archaeological Museum of La Gomera (Casa de los Echeverrías, Calle Torres Padilla 6, 38800 San Sebastián) – this museum, known locally as MAG, is housed in a typical Canary Island building near La Asunción Church Square (a 17th century building that was a former residence of the 18th century Basque native Don Miguel de Echeverría, one of the royal officials that ran the island at the time). The small collection includes exhibits about Canarian aborigines and their cave paintings as well as a full-scale replica of a sacrificial altar.

The museum shows how the first settlers settled on the island, their way of life and how they used natural resources to live; their settlements, the characteristics of their social organization, their culture, politics and the world of their beliefs. Guided tours are available in the mornings. Admission: €2.50 per person. Hours: 9:30 am – 1:30 pm & 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm (weekdays). Closed on weekends & holidays.
